Out of the box, initial assembly took me all of 15 minutes. At that point, the Workhorse’s footprint is pretty darn small (about 20″x10″x10″). If needed, the front legs can be quickly removed, too, with just a socket wrench. Its 50-bird magazine simply slides on and off the top, and the elevation-adjusting rear “foot” folds in. You really have your ship together.Weighing in at only 32 pounds, the Workhorse is easy enough for one person to schlep from home to car and car to range. I wonder if anyone makes an 8 gauge trap gun? :02: Oh and I see you also reload. Otherwise I'm having to twist my body somewhat to get my gun back to the left and it's not like I'm going to hit a clay immediately after it exits the trap house anyway. I just realized I should position myself so my shotgun and my body is pointed more toward midfield than at the traphouse especially at position one. I don't know why I didn't think about it before but typing these words just now suddenly made me realize one of the errors of my way of positioning myself. It's maybe in part too because I shoot left handed and on station one I am poised with my shotgun aiming toward the traphouse which is forward and to the right then I suddenly have to try to hit what looks to me like a streaking target moving toward my left. Looks like it has lots of vertical adjust-ability too! When I said "hard left" I was probably exaggerating some about our club traphouse but with me being a rookie, the clays that shoot out toward the left appear to move faster than the clays shooting straight out or the ones with less left or right angle, so it's hard for me to get on them as quickly. There's a little bit of a balancing act too it with one person but pretty quickly I figured it out.Īwesome set-up. I found that it will send clays out one after the other much quicker than I can reload my Bt-99 if I don't get my foot off the switch. CHAMPION WORKHORSE ELECTRONIC TRAP HOW TOI did have to play a little bit with figuring out how to best step on the switch just long enough to send out only one clay. While at Walmart I also picked up an inexpensive 6 amp charger that will charge it and maintain it and it seems to work fine as well. I brought it back and with out charging it hooked it up to the workhorse and it performed perfectly as I shot up another box of shells. Later the same day I went to Walmart and for 58 dollars bought a Cheap but very sufficient marine style deep cycle battery. I shot a couple boxes of shells through my gun with it set up that way. The cord for the foot switch was sufficient and the foot switch cable is fused as well as a breaker reset switch built into the machine. I did put a couple sticks up under the front legs to give it more elevation but it also has some adjustment for elevation as well. I did have to use the little tent pegs that came with it to keep it from continually trying to turn to the left but they worked perfectly holding it in place. To test it out, I didn't have a battery so I just hooked jumper cables to the battery clamps and it worked fine. I fortunately live in the country so was able to test it in my own yard without issue. Once I understood how to correctly load it, it operated perfectly. CHAMPION WORKHORSE ELECTRONIC TRAP TRIALSince I never operated one of these before it took a little trial and error to get it right. CHAMPION WORKHORSE ELECTRONIC TRAP INSTALLMainly you unpack it, bolt the legs on and install the spring, install some plastic tubing which just indicates the area where you want no part of your body to be when that arm whips around and you also install a couple pieces of long tubing that hold the clay pigeons. The sale officially starts today Feb 9th through the 22nd. Long story shorter, the manager was kind enough to let me have it at the sale price since I had to drive pretty far. Well I didn't read the flyer real close and turns out the sale didn't start for 3 more days. That's my sign! So I went to my nearest Cabelas to get one some 70 or so miles away. Well, Monday their flyer made it's way to my door and I saw that model was on sale for 249.99! OK!. I had already looked at one Cabelas sells at 319.99 that looked interesting. CHAMPION WORKHORSE ELECTRONIC TRAP PORTABLEI am new to this game and was looking for a way to casually learn to shoot well so I had thought to get myself my own portable trap set up. ![]()
